Dr. Jody Longo-Schmid is a researcher, author, and teacher.
A former high school American history, government, and economics teacher, Dr. Longo-Schmid has a PhD in public administration and policy, has worked in government, and has taught undergraduate classes on American government, public management, and race and politics. Her research interests include the effects of public discourse and policies on children’s educational outcomes and educators’ political and social experiences, identities, and behaviors. She also studies how organized labor and labor policies influence professional socialization, economic and political voice, and economic mobility.
Dr. Longo-Schmid has published research on how high-stakes testing influences children’s educational outcomes and the teaching profession. She spent close to 15 years researching and writing her first book, Children, Not Widgets: How to Fight and Fix the Willful Miseducation of Students and the Dismantling of Public Education.
